Rotary Club of Bolingbrook 50th Anniversary Celebration! Please join us as we toast the past 50 years and look forward to 50 more!
The Bolingbrook Rotary Club is partnering with the Conservation Foundation and the Bolingbrook Park District to adopt a section of the East Branch of the DuPage River along the DuPage River Greenway Trail. This represents the expansion of the Conservation Foundation's the Adopt a Stream program into Will County and we're excited to bring the program to Bolingbrook!
As part of the Adopt a Stream program, the Bolingbrook Rotary Club will organize 2 clean up event each year. Our Spring Clean up event will align with the dates for the annual DuPage River Sweep.
Spring 2025
Clean up
When: Saturday, May 3, 2025; 9:00 AM - Noon
Meet at: The Dupage River Greenway Trail head
(near 569 Concord Ln, Bolingbrook, IL 60440)
We will be removing litter from along the river and the trail. We expect to also do some streambank restoration such as removing invasive species and planting native species.
What to wear:
High-top work boots with non-skid soles. No tennis shoes! (Your footwear will get wet and muddy so don’t wear expensive Nikes!)
Hat (sun protection) or scarf
Long pants with a long-sleeve shirt
Heavy-duty work gloves
Insect repellent (Permanone and sulfur powder are good tick repellents)
Sunscreen
Volunteers will receive a wildflower seed packet rated for medium to wet soils. These seeds will do well in a rain garden or area of your yard that tends to flood.
These seeds are best sown in fall, but you can spread them in Spring and they will lay dormant through the winter (until they go through a cold period).
Seeds were sourced through Prairie Moon Nursery and includes the following:
Chelone glabra (Turtlehead)
Hibiscus laevis (Rose Mallow)
Liatris pycnostachya (Prairie Blazing Star)
Lobelia cardinalis (Cardinal Flower)
Lobelia siphilitica (Great Blue Lobelia)
Mentha arvensis (Wild Mint)
Mimulus ringens (Monkey Flower)
Oligoneuron riddellii (Riddell's Goldenrod)
Check out The Conservation Foundation's rain garden resources for more guidance.
